Good Afternoon,
Back with more questions on my body swap project. Not sure which forum was best to ask in so I started here since one is a 4x4. I have a 70 F100 2WD with a 360/auto. My donor truck is a running and driving 71 F100 4WD with a 302/NP435. Should I keep one set up over the other? Mix and match? How much of a project is it to mount the 360 to the 435? Part of me is thinking stick with the 302/435, get everything buttoned up and then down the road switch to the 360. But I'm also thinking its probably easier to have the drive train set up the way I want it while the body is off. Any insight, advice or comments are greatly appreciated.

Re: 2WD to 4WD drive train
first off you have to realize I'm very partial to my SBF engines, (I can not stand thje FE engine there's just not enough aftermarket parts for them/parts are always more expensive/and i was always plagued with rear main oil seal leaks, (a common issue with the FE) so my vote is for the 302, (which you have so...many different build options to choose from). But I'm also a die hard automatic tranny guy so that would be where your work and parts would be to get the 302 to mate to the transfer case and an automatic, (the 2WD auto won't bolt up to the transfer case).Special_Nick

And yes you're on the right track to pull the body and work the engine transfer case and tranny like that as it's much less labor intensive, (and a lot safer).

Re: 2WD to 4WD drive train
Hello Nick, I am currently going through a similar swap. I am using the 360/c6 from a 68 donor truck and am swapping it into a 70 4x4 that had a 360/np435. I think I remember reading something on here that it is almost necessary to have the cab off to get everything to clear the crossmember, but, I could be wrong. You will need to fabricate a special mounting bracket for the transfer case shifter if you do swap in the automatic and the driveshaft between the trans and transfer case may need to be shortened.Special_Nick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 12:23 pm Good Afternoon,
