Drove my bump to work last night and discovered at 1am i didn't have any dash lights.......all other lights work including the tach which is wired into the dash lights....dimmer for them works......tach light dimmer when I turned the knob back and forth. Only thing I can think of is i switched out the base model metal dash bezel for the higher end plastic one and it the lights used the metal one as a ground so now i need to run a ground wire.....am I on the right track of thinking............
I didn't notice it before because this was the first time I've driven it after dark this year and they worked before this......
No dash lights......

I'm assuming that you're referring to the truck in your sig... 1968?Ohiotinkerer wrote:Drove my bump to work last night and discovered at 1am i didn't have any dash lights.......all other lights work including the tach which is wired into the dash lights....dimmer for them works......tach light dimmer when I turned the knob back and forth. As best as I can tell from the illustration, I think you're right. It looks like the lamps get power, but have no specific grounding wires.
Upgrading your upgrade might mean you have to swap out all of the single-wire lamp sockets and replace them with dual wire lamp sockets.
Good luck with it.

Yes I believe if you find which wire is the ground and ground it you should be all set.Ohiotinkerer wrote: so now i need to run a ground wire.....am I on the right track of thinking............

Thanks guys......that was the only reason I could think of why they weren't working but with my luck if I didn't ask i would have melted half my wiring doing something I shouldn't have.....
