Fluids and capacities help. 69 F250 4x4

Post by trapperjack »

I got a disc that has the 69 Ford shop manual. Great for many things, but not much help on others. So far here's what I know. 69 F250, 360, NP435 4 spd, Dana 24 t-case, Dana 60 rear with 4.10's. Have found that Ford said SAE 50 in T-case and tranny? Not 90wt? Can't find anything on front and rear axle as far as which lubricant to use, and can't find anything for capacities. Trying to get all the little stuff done. Considering a twin stick set up for t-case, having problems getting things to line up with stock set-up. Would the twin stick give me option of 2low?
Thanks to those that have answered previous questions. You've been a big help.

Did you look up the numbers on the trans to see if that's what it was? I think mine is a T18 ('72/360) with divorced NP205 and T86 was the other 4 speed option for the Highboys before '73.

Yes....50W. Not engine oil. Drive train oil. A good parts store will be able to get it for you. Trans and T case. You will find shifting in COLD temps a lot easier with the 50W. It works and lubes just fine.
80-90W in the diffs if they are open/open. If you have a locker of any kind then you will need other stuff in there for the clutch friction plates.

Capacities....D44 Low pinion, drum brake front...i would start with two quarts then stick my finger in there to see what its at.
D60 rear... i would do the same.

A few friends of mine swear by "fill it till it comes back out". Not sure how well that will work with 40 yr old axle seals
