cup holder installation in 95-96 XLT bench seat

Post by F100 Dad »

Has anyone ever tried installing cup holders in the fold-down armrest of a 1995 or 1996 F150 XLT bench seat like the one shown below?

I need to cut 2 cylindrical holes and am not sure what is inside.

Small spills/splashes are gonna be a pain to clean up since the seat is velour. A vinyl seat would be less of an issue.

What does it feel like on the top, bottom and sides? I just tore apart a console/jump seat out of a 2010 model and it may have similar design. Here's what it looked like torn apart. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &start=525 Once I got the console top plastic removed there was very little guts to it. Not hardly anything to mount anything to in the central portion, just foam and fabric.

I'm not trying to start anything but what's wrong with the cup holders in the front part of the seat.?

I have the same set up and i think the armrest is almost too short to be comfortable with cup holders.
most newer trucks have longer consoles to accommodate cup holders.

Honestly I didn't even notice that when I grabbed this pic off the web to show a seat like ours.

Is that OEM? Ours doesn't have that.

Just found one on fleaBay - ouch! $60 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1992-1993-1994- ... 70&vxp=mtr

Looks like they can be had for about $40-50. I'll add that to my salvage yard pick list unless someone has one laying around.

Referring back to the original question, I figure since it is also a backrest, it'll likely have "S" springs, foam, and batting. Does it have a velcro'ed flap to allow the upholstery to be removed.... like taking off a sock?

My solution was buckets from a '70 Mach 1 and a center console (with storage and cupholders) from a '96 F150 SuperCab XLT.

There's two bolts on the front of the seat and it just lifts off.
Don't forget the bolts they look special.
