The 390 in my 69 F-100 has always ran kinda weak and did not like to rev :( . I knew the fuel pump was weak so I got a new one. After I took it off my dad said see if you can move the timing chain. I stuck my finger in there and could move it about 1 or 2 inches.I can't believe it hasn't jumped time. I ordered a new one and it'll be here friday. It should run a lot stonger with a good timing set :woohoo:

yes it will. if the fiber teeth are worn down or broken off in the pan. drain the oil and while the plug is out and timing cover off dump some gas down in there to clean out the fiber pieces. you might get soem of them out in the oil though.

A timing chain that loose will cause the cam timing to be retarded. With a new chain and gears you will be well pleased with how much more power the truck has.

A heads-up for you:
Be sure to reset the distributor timing. It runs off the cam and it may have been advanced unknowingly to work with a retarded cam. Once the cam is put back in correct timing, the spark timing may need to be adjusted also.
