Seatbelt Question

Post by frognlw »

My 71 just failed inspection due to the lack of a middle seat belt. Did these trucks actually come with a third seatbelt? and if so where can I find one? The junk Yards out here don't have any old fords. I'm gonna take it to a different place tomorrow, cause the guy that did the inspection was nit picking way too much. (he even listed improper tire pressure as a reason) Any help on this would be great.

I cant remember if my 72 had a 3rd seatbelt or not but i am pretty sure it did.If they did have one you could probably find one on LMC truck site or ebay.

You could get a 3rd seat belt but it wasn't standard equipment. Take it to another inspector who isn't such a dhead. He probably wasn't even born when the truck was made.

Go to autozone and buy a univrersal seat belt. They cost $15.00 dollars. it only took about 20 minutes to install. Just take the bolts out for the exsisting belts in the center and add the new belt to these bolts.

As far as I can recall anything pre 1972 was not mandatory for seat belts up here so if the car or truck was not equipped with it ..then thats the way it is .You cannot expect people with model "A" pickups as a example to start putting in safety belts ,turn signals and reverse lights in there mint classics .

My dads 71 didnt have a middle belt in it but my 72 did. He luckily found a matching belt form the junkyard to fit it.

According to the book "Ford F100/F150 Pickup", in 71 the center seat belt was a $7.10 option; in 72 the center belt was standard.
