!967 F-250 4x4
I thought you guys would like to see the new rig I am thinking about getting. I will be losing the flat bed and putting the bed from my 69 project on it. It has a 300ci straight 6 with a 4spd. It runs pretty smooth but knocks something fierce. The current owner seems to think it's just a rocker that needs adjusted but I've never heard a rocker this loud. It sounds like a rod to me. I am going to call around tomorrow to find out how much it will cost to have the engine rebuilt if necessary. If it doesn't go over my tax refund then I will get it. He wants $800 for it.
It also has alot of rust in the floorboards but everything else is solid. I crawled around under it today and the cab mounts and everything else under the truck look very good. The truck was originally a DOT truck for the state of Kansas and I think what has happened is that alot of salt has been tracked into the cab over the years and with the rubber floormats it has just sat there and eaten away at the metal. He has another 67-72 cab lying out back that luckily has been left with the floors out of the dirt. It looks to have good floorboards in it so i will just cut them from it and weld them into the 67. The cab corners and rocker panels have no rust at all. The front fenders have just a hint of rust starting to bubble the paint.
The winch and tommy lift will not go with it. I tried to get the winch but he promised it to his dad and he won't let it go. He has another winch but it was on a truck he sold to a guy in Ohio. They didn't want to worry with removing it but never thought about how he would get it back here. He says to make him an offer on it and if we can figure out how to get it here then he will sell it to me. It's an original PTO driven winch and I can't find anything about them. Hopefully someone here can give me an idea how much one might be worth.

AFAIK, Ford did not off a factory PTO winch. I believe you could order a factory transmission or transfercase PTO, but it wasn't hooked to anything.
Doesn't look like too bad of a truck. You can almost always feel a rod knocking through the floorboards of the truck. A valvetrain problem can be just as loud as a rod, but you will not feel the distinct clanking through the truck body.

Well in that case I didn't feel anything through what's left of the floorboards. Maybe I'll go ahead and pull the valve cover and see if it does just need adjusting.
Any idea what the winch would be worth?
The red super crew is my brothers truck. It's a 78 that has served us well for some time now but may be going to a new home. It's what he may be trading for the 74 crew cab.

Depends what it is and who you're selling it to. I've never paid a dime for monster 10 ton size PTO winches. They seam to be free once the person gets tired of tripping over them. The smaller 8K bronco/jeep/FJ winches go for a few hundred bucks.
I had a 10 ton garwood PTO winch from a '44 duece and a half mounted in a bumper I built from 3/8" and 1/2" A36 plate. I had the bumper pieces cnc plasma cut, it was real sharp on my '70 and well tough was an understatement. I traded that winch and bumper for a 79 HP60 front axle and a Warn 9000XDI electric winch to a guy that fell in love with it and had to have it. I only had maybe $100 into it and alot of time.

That does look good (of course I say that about all of the 67-72 Ford Trucks). I see the interior looks a little different...is that a radio delete plate or is it blocked out completely? Also, some added toggle switches in there too.
I like it...that front bumper rocks...too bad you can't get the winch too.
Oh, well, it will look sweet when you get it fixed up.
Keep us updated.

Looks like it's in pretty good shape other than the floors. If the transfer case and front end is in working condition, $800 sounds fair to me. I'd get rid of the DOT yellow though!

Personally, I think that $800 will grow into a lot of work. I'd consider spending a bit more for something needing less work. Rust scares me.

re: !967 F-250 4x4
thing to look for in buying a 4x4 is not the body as much as the running gear.you can find bodys easier than fixing all the axle,u joints, transfer case and spring problems which can grow to be spendy.
i gave a battery, seat and a window for the f250 highboy i currently have.the body is toast but most all the mechanical stuff is in good shape.

re: !967 F-250 4x4
We got it running good but it still has a slight knock. I figure it could run a long time like that and in the mean time I will build up a new 300 for it. We moved it to get it ready for the bed swap. I hope to get the new bed on it this weekend but it will depend on wether or not I can get ahold of the tractor to lift the old bed off.

Like yours, Mine came with what is thought to be a factory winch. I can trace the history of this truck backthru to the 2nd owner, and they al say the winch was on there when they bought the truck.
Mine ran off a PTO on the tranfer case. (that makes it a 4 speed winch!) As a matter of fact, your front bumper look real similar to mine, its the closest I've ever seen!
Nice truck! shorten the bed a little, dually the rear, and it would look a lot like mine.
