I noticed in reading the archives here and at a "not to be mentioned other site" there is much discussion about replacing gauges.
Before replacing gauges be sure to troubleshoot first.
When I bought my truck the only gauge that worked was the fuel gauge and it wouldn't go above 1/4 tank.
After troubleshooting all of them I have replaced none of them. The problems were either in senders or wiring.
I had the same problem on a few other cars that I have redone and have yet to replace a gauge even on a 61 and a 52.
Guages.

An easy/quick way to determine if the senders are bad is to do the following. disconnect the wire from the temp sender, shove a piece of wire into the terminal and then ground the other side. w/ the key on temp guage should max out. If it does then the trouble is the sender. An easy, inexpensive fix. Do the same w/ the oil pressure guage. Good luck.
