Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
Chains can be stronger than gears in a similiar sized package. I think as far as late model planetary chain VS 205 goes, the chain case may survive higher instantaneous torque and get better mileage than a 205 will, but will not have the lifespan or case toughness of the iron 205.
The new cases rarely break. They die for the most part from poor maintenance. They don't use many bearings inside, mostly bushings and when they are worked hard, the oil pump fails or not maintained well the bushings eat themselves.

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
Hey Dustin.... have any experience with this one? I think it will work?
Picked this NP273F up for $100.... I'm going to take the output shaft, tailhousing and fixed yoke and see if it all fits in my NP271D for a slip yoke eliminator upgrade?

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
I had to take a break from frame and suspension work... so I worked on the timing gear cover and the clutch master cylinder actuating rod....

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
I haven't tried switching parts between those cases, but NP cases are pretty interchangeable between the same family. I'd bet at the worst there might be a difference in the pocket bearing size between the two. If there is I'd just machine an adapter bushing to make up the difference.
Is that cover going to clear the serp belt? Looks nice, but might double check. I'm working on a product that mounts to the timing cover tin right now and the belt is right where I don't need it to be and only an 1/8" from the timing cover itself.

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
So I had to break away from the truck for a couple weeks while working on some automobile upgrades... strange thing is that I guess it did some good, because when I got back to looking at the twins... I see that I can get the primary underneath that that top turbo and clear the coilover hoop. I have to give those hoops some real thought now as the S475 will interfere with the additional hoop supports that I had planed for....

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
So I took everything back apart to do all the port matching from manifold, spacer and secondary turbo inlet... kind of time consuming, but needs to be done.

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
Finished up the primary turbo mount... not a lot of room to get that drain hose past the motor mount. I have two direction that I can go with it... to the stock location on the block or one of the two npt bungs that I added to the oil pan....

Re: 1969 Ford Crew Cab / Cummins Project
Port matched the primary turbine inlet.... T6 ports are huge!
