Just changed the transmission fluid in my truck(1970 f-100 2wd 360 c6) anyway I checked the owners manual and it said 25.5 american pints and being here in canada I converted that to roughly 12 litres. anyway i drained the pain and then changed(well tried to change, long story short I reused my old filter) my filter. anyway after I sealed it all back up I put in 8 litres believing I was still about 4-4.5 litres short I checked the fluid and it was way up the stick so I left the truck to warm up and get hot still way up the dip stick. anyways I realized I forgot about some fluid probably staying in the converter when it drained but I didn't think it would be 4 litres. Just wondering how much fluid people use when they change there fluid? and weather not driving it on the road(other then around back to park it) means it hasn't fully circulated threw the transmission? also whats the hazard if I have over filled it? and is there another way to take some fluid out of the pan without having to loosen all the tranny bolts? Maybe like a small hose down the fill/dipstick tube and a pump/ baster like device?

Hi, overfilling it should not hurt it if you didn't drive it...If you overfill enough to reach the spinning gear train it will foam up & not apply the clutches or band..if you ran it at idle for a couple minutes...you are ok. Does your converter not have a drain plug ? CHECK < IT SHOULD>.
You can drain there or loosen the pan bolts 2 turns & let the pan drop And catch the overflow, that is if you didn't glue the pan with some type of sealer.. you can also loosen the rear cooler line an run the engine long enough to catch however much you think you need, or suck it up thru the fill tube........lot of choices...........Donnie

I did drive it around back to park it.. so hopefully no damage. anyway off to bed have to get up early to drain the excess fluid and get some insurance so I can head out to the car show.

i did the same thing with my c-4,only i mistook the pints for quarts before converting to metric ...when i finally got the sucker fired up 2 weeks later it puked about 3 litres of atf out the vent tube before i even knew what was going on....one of the brighter moments in my life for sure

there should be a drain plug in the torque converter.
you'll have to remove the inspection cover and rotate the engine to find it.
