1970 F100 Project
Well, there's not much here and the progress will be fast at times and very slow at times but I have officially begun my 1970 2WD SWB F100 project.
Last year, I rebuilt a '70 C6 (from another F100) with a TCI kit, new bushing kit, new one-way bearing assembly and added a new Hughes 2200-2400 stall speed converter and flex plate. I also started a 390 build beginning with a 0.030" overbore, 0.010" decking, and a line bore to tighten up the oil clearances. I had the crank turned 0.010" and polished and the rods re-sized (big end) and re-bushed (small end).
All of this stuff was slated for the black '69 but I recently bought a very clean, straight, and rust-free '70 without a motor or transmission...so, all of this new stuff will now be finding its home in the new '70.
The C6 build:

Re: 1970 F100 Project Kickoff
This is the day I brought it home. The PO had already ditched the 240/3-speed and removed the front clip and doors so this is basically how I got it...

Re: 1970 F100 Project Kickoff
I started modestly with a little Purple Power on the front of the frame followed by a twisted wire brush cup on my grinder. I HATE this part...
As you can see, the truck is real clean including the cab mounts, corners, floor, etc. and had been given a low-budget restoration I'm guessing between 10 and 15 years ago. The original 'new lime' can be seen on the front corners. Plans are for a solid boxwood green and a polished or painted '67 grille and '67-'69 style hood (smaller and ribbed F-O-R-D letters).
I've still got a LOT of cleaning to do before I lay the Rust Bullet onto the frame. The body will get an all over 320 grit scuff and filled stake pockets and antenna before I shoot it with high-build buff primer and block it with 400 grit. It might be a little while before I update again...I just wanted to kick this project off and throw out a few teaser pics!

Re: 1970 F100 Project Kickoff
A little more degreasing and wire brushing...not the most glamorous part of these projects! I'm going to try and get the whole front suspension and steering out tomorrow and finish up brushing the underside of the crossmember and coil spring pockets so that I can apply the Rust Bullet and then swap over the DJM's and discs that are under my '69 now (already new bearings, seals, kingpins, bushings, calipers, rotors, pads etc.). Also, I need to degrease and rebuild one of my Saginaw boxes and get it installed so I can steer the frame around again.
I also wire brushed a few rusty spots (just surface rust) to get them prepped for some primer.

Re: 1970 F100 Project Kickoff
Thanks!
Shot some Rust Bullet onto the front of the frame to prepare it for the DJM equipped '75 F100 front with all new coils, kingpins, bearings, seals, rotors, calipers, bushings, etc. Man, that stuff is thick, gooey, and weird to spray!!! I'm getting my rest tonight because this front end will be coming out of my '69 first and its front end will get replaced by the '70's drum front. I hope my back holds out! I'm getting too old for some of this crap!
Next up, pulling bed and laying the cab on its back for more wire brushing, Rust Bullet for the frame, Rust Bullet/primer/paint for the cab/bed bottoms before remounting with new bushings. Then the serious sanding begins.

Re: 1970 F100 Project - Juggling I-beams
I was a little sad to pull these parts from the '69 but I've got a better foundation in the '70 so on with the swap!!!
It's a little dusty and dirty but it's all brand new from hub to hub (except for the spindles and radius arms)...
The '69 now has the old '70 front end...I have to keep the '69 portable for now...

Thanks Randy! Yeah, my back is a little tender right now but I think that was the part I was dreading the most and now I can relax with a cold beer and play with my soon to be 1-year-old son.
