What type of transmission?

Post by J_Boo »

I just bought a 67 F100 ranger, and I'm curious the type of transmission it is. I think it's an FMX it has 14 bolts on the pan, looks like the dip stick is actually in the pan and the modulator is on the drivers side? The engine is a 352, would this be a stock transmission if it is an FMX? If it is an FMX is it good.

I have narrowed it down between The FMX and Medium cruise omatic. Can anyone tell me about these transmissions?

Can't be an FMX for two reasons. First, the FMX was not used until 1968. Second, the FMX dipstick goes into the case.

The MX Cruiso was last used in Fords in 1967 (Ford replaced it with the FMX in 1968), but continued to be used in a few other vehicles as well as forklifts for a few years after 1967.

So this MX Cruiso was that stock in 67 trucks? Is the modulator valve on the drivers side? O

Modulator is on the back of the case, not the side of the case.

It is on the back, but like the C4 it is on the back passenger side. This one is on the back driver side. Does that sound correct?

usually (from what i've seen anyways) an fmx has an iron case and a c4 has an aluminum case - that was the easiest way for me to tell when i used to go crawling under old pelters while junkyard raiding
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

FMX is ALWAYS iron case.
C4 is ALWAYS aluminum case.
