Automatic 3 speed to Auto 4 speed?

Post by whodat71F100 »

I think I have a c4 in my 71 F100. Is it possible via a kit to install a OD gear? Or is there another transmission that would in effect do the same thing? I've got a 240/3.9 engine if that helps. What are my options...if any? I'd like to get a little more top speed for highway purposes.

There are overdrive units that can be bolted to the rear of your transmission, but nothing that can be done internally.

With a 240, though, you're planning on turning your truck into a real dog, IMHO...

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Really? Interesting...okay, I guess I'm stuck with it the way it is. Until I can upgrade the engine.

The least costly way to go would be a gear change..What ratio are you using? Or taller tires.
