First and foremost you will need a scattershield especially if you like your feet
but mostly because most early Lakewood scattershields will have a dual bolt pattern for the narrow and wide
bolt pattern for the trans

Next you have to figure out if it is a small or big block which is easy enough to tell by the length
of the stub that slides into the bushing in the back of the crank
If it is a big block trans no special bushing needed
If it is a small block trans and you use a car scattershield you need a stepped bushing

Next you have to figure out which install kit you need for the length of the tail shaft
so you can get the right length rods to go to the shifter

These are just some points to consider

There are more steps but it is not going to be as hard to put the toplader in your truck
as you might think

whats up calfdemon? long time no talk i just might have to head out there again for the cruise night.

its supposed to be a 64' 390 model he says long tail shaft...but if its a narrow bolt pattern and has the right 1 1/16 input shaft..will it bolt to my current t18 bellhouse...its a c5... something or other? or do i need a bellhouse from a car?

thanks for the site info 67mann
