Nice job! I made one almost identical to yours in about 1982. It worked great. I didn't have an air compressor at the time so my boss let me use the one where I worked. They went out of business and I didn't get my cabinet out before the auction. I saw it go by my house on the back of someones pickup. The only problem with mine was dust. If that's a problem you may want to connect a vacuum cleaner to it.

I gave it a try today and it worked great. The siphon blaster seems to be faster than my pressure pot blaster too. I blasted clean one side of a drum brake backing plate in about 10 mins. Youre right about the dust though. I think my Dad hooked the vacuum up to the other one also because I dont remember that much dust. Fortunately its not seeping out the seams too badly. It sure beats not being covered head to toe with media.

Great job, looks real nice  , & yep a vacuum or a small squirrel fan work great, I vented mine outside to keep the dust down in the shop. One thing I found out with the siphon feed, is it would pull more media than what would stay by the tube so I put a hole in the bottom of the bucket and put the tube under it and sealed it, the media would fall into the tube all by it's self that way.

Dang you guys went all out ! I built one similar last year. Only difference is I didnt put a sand trap on mine.

You're right, beats getting covered with sand, that's for sure.

You may already know this but in case you don't, to keep your window from getting blasted, tape a clear plastic sheet over the window. That way you just have to replace the clear plastic instead of the window when it gets hard to see through. Tape all the way around it so sand doesn't get between the glass and the plastic.

I've used Mylar and acetate which can be found at office supply stores. I just got a roll of clear plastic that is used for covering books that works fine.

Good idea. Lowe's sells sheets of Lexan that may also work (easy to trim and fit with a cut-off wheel).

Yeah I need to protect the glass before I get too crazy. Anyone know where I can get some NASCAR windsheild tearoffs? Wouldnt that be sweet? Blast cabinet of tomorow

You could always wait till they come out with transparent aluminum.

The stuff I'm talking about is paper-thin. It can be cut out with scissors or razor blade.

Good evening Jeff,

That looks like a very nice job you did! You could probably make those and sell them for a profit.

Thanks for the compliments! I added a few holes for the vacuum cleaner hose to keep dust down and put a light inside. Its working sweet. I blasted about a half dozen parts this afternoon. I wanted to do it sooner but had to get over some pneumonia first. That wouldnt have been too wise. :nono:
