Early C4 24spline in 71 F100

Post by ddiaz »

So I wasn't too familiar with the early C4 (64-69) and I picked one up along with F18 torque converter and FP-302E Flex Plate for my 71 F100 302. I just realized that it is a 24 spline and learned the 70s series came with a 26 spline. I am building it as a daily driver (honey do's, hardware store trips, etc. ). Any recommendations, should I return it? Any gotcha's if I keep it? Understand, its a drive to Compton California about 45 minutes away.

are you talking about the ouput shaft splines? if so just get the right driveshaft flange to match that trans. if you are talking abou the pump shaft to torque converter. get the correct converter.

Yes, the output shaft splines. So in your opinion the 24 spline will hold up fine for the purposes of a daily driver? I was provided the torque converter along with the C4 so Im pretty sure the shop provided me the correct converter. Another concern of mine is the Flexplate. I bought the 71 long block with with the flexplate (I believe 164 teeth, 28.2oz) , at a later point I got the C4 with the torque converter. Any potential gotchas with this setup?
