Nice thread man, I currently have a 72 ranger I'm thinkn of de-chroming, was it a pane in the ass to remove the sidemoldings? I started but don't have much patience and didn't wanna break them in the process.

I like the clean look without the moldings, plus with all the repairs I have to make, they are way to much for me to pay out of pocket....

Same here man, I've always liked the color matched look on bumpers, the moldings throw it off. Mine has the wide side moldings and their well abused, gotta figure out the best way to remove them.. And ab the jb weld: is their a certain tube your referring to? I kno your not usein the putty. Ima try filling my holes as u did

I only use the putty after i get the hold plugged to take care of any air bubbles that pop. I use JB weld on the holes, works great for me.

Well, it was raining today and could not do a thing to my truck, kind of bumed out. I am looking to get the body work done on the outter part of the bed before I take it off, minus the inside. Then when its off I can get to the underside and the front. I am going with an undercoating after I put on either POR15, or some other good stuff I found to use. Then a couple coats of rust prevention primer as well, then undercoating. The inside of the bed will be sand blasted and poweder coated with a dark silver to match interior of the cab.
After that is done, I plan to start to rebuild the rear of the truck, break lines, breaks and so forth with a freash coat of paint and undercoat. It is a poor mans rebuild, but my father restored a 1955 chevy 2 door Bel Air hard top as a daily driver and that is what I am doing. The major things right now.
1. Steering
2. Breaks
3. Does not run to my standards yet
4. clunking in the undercarrage somewhere (this is pissing me off, can't find it)
This is the update so far, I will have some new pics once I get started on the cab and more body work. Its more fun with pics....

When does the clunking sound happen? Any time when moving, turning only, stopping? Does it get faster depending on your speed?

The clunk happens after going from reverse, to forward while turning. I think that the bushings are shot and something is rubbing under there. I do have a bent coil on one spring in the back.

I'm not positive on that one. Worth checking out your radius arm bushings and anything else in the front end.

I think it is something in the chassis for sure. Ill find it when I rebuild the rear end, all the bushings and so forth. I found out today that body work is not easy, after I do a spot, it seems good till i put primer on it and feel the spot, then I find all sorts of things to touch up. The holes I filled in on removing the chrome came out good, but for some reason I can not get simple dents out. I sand it flat and it still comes out indented. I did not take any pics of the new work yet, I was out in cloudy weather in the cold working on the ol girl I am going to take her under the carport in back so I have cover, but my tools are in the garage and that makes it tuff to work on.
IN the next 5 days, my plan is to keep working on the body and prep the floor of the cab to get all the rusy off it and prepare to cut out the rusted floor pans.

OK, I have made a little progress on the beast. It is slow going but I have all but 4 holes patched up the ps side of the truck. The process is long and I am not much of bondo man. I have to circle each dent I "try" to take out so that a body shop can redo them all. Lucky for me there are not that many.
Everything that is primer has been taken down to the bare metal, have to get that 40 year old paint off I sometimes get bored of an area I am working on tnd jump around, so the next thing is getting the cab ready for cut and weld inside. Enjoy the pics.

Now that the rain has stopped, I can work on my truck. I took the tail gate off today, and that thing is a mess. But I reworked some dents that were not right, and I am getting ready to fill in the holes around the tail light. I also spent some time taking out the body filler in the body lines, that I will replace when I am all done with the body work on this side. I'll tell you its tuff to get off 40 year old paint, even with 60 grit sandpaper. I know you all like pics, so here you are.
