Newbie- Should I remove this camper top/shell?

Post by socalcraigster »

I am thinking about removing this camper shell. Any they worth anything or should I just get out the old reciprocating saw? I hate to cut it up and find out that this particular shell was worth big bucks.

Please give me your opinions - REMOVE AND TRASH or REMOVE AND SELL?

Also, how much do you think the shell/top would sell for? :fr:

Keep it in one piece and if you cant get $50 or give it away,
it works good for covering stuff.
You can always cut it up and toss it later. :2cents:

Good day Craig,

It looks like it is from the photos, but is that shell a pristine fit on the bed, as though it was made for this bed specifically?

Does it leak anywhere in the rain? What's the condition of the glass, screens, and back hatch?

In my opinion, you should most certainly sell that cap instead of scrapping it. Somebody could really enjoy it--I like the looks of it quite a bit myself, although I'm probably not your buyer (since I'm not planning on having a cap like that on my truck).

If I had to guess on a value, assuming that its condition is good all-around, my wild and crazy guess would be $100 to $300. Maybe up to $400 if it's like-new.

Have an excellent afternoon Craig!

Welcome. What are your plans for the truck? If you are going to work out of it or use it for camping and such you could always paint it to match the truck. It looks like it was made back around the time your truck was or maybe the late 70's anyway.
I had a shell I used to put on and take off when needed but it did mess up the paint on top of my bed rails.
A tree limb feel on my shell is the only reason I still don't use it once in a while. They are very nice to have when you need it and don't cost anything when you don't need it. They are usually light enough to remove by yourself.
I say that if you think you could ever have a use for it and have the room to store it out of your way then keep it. Don't destroy it by any means. Somebody will at least get it out of your way. As for a price? I swapped a guy an old grill shell I had put up for mine. Then I cleaned it up and painted it to match my truck

Personally I don't care for the look of shells on trucks. They work good for truck beds made into trailers though.

Trade it off for something you can use on craigslist.

i don't like camper shells. but that does look good enough to keep. it will eat more gas with the camper shell on it. but you may never notice that. if that is a ford camper shell it is worth some money. but it doesnt look like it is a ford shell.

Keep it. It matches the shag carpet bed liner! I also see you have a well stocked emergency bump fluid selection. I never leave home without them myself.

Were I close enough, I'd want it bad enough to make a pretty fair offer......... I'm sure someone else will want it as well.

I'd try to google / ebay the name of it for the little research it would take to find out how rare it is. It is pretty unique with the two small windows in the front section (unless they've been added).
That topper will keep your bed looking pristine for many years to come, (if you decided to leave it on). :2cents:

Keep it but remove it. If you want to go camping, put it back on.
