Welcome Droptime, I've only been here about a month and :fr:

Pro's:
1. You're about to purchase the most awesome truck ever mass produced on this planet
2. These trucks are dependable and very rugged.
3. Chicks dig Ford 4X4's
4. Carburetors and points, no computer crap. You can actually crawl into the engine compartment to change plugs.
5. The old highboys look their best when pulling a cheby out of a mudhole.
6. LMC truck, NPD, blue oval truck and several other places to get parts for the truck that you may not find at your local parts store, though typical wear stuff is readily available.

Cons:
1. Manual brakes and no power steering (you can upgrade these later).
2. Rust on the bottom of the fenders by the doors, and inner fenders and radiator support. The good news is there are still a lot of donor trucks in salvage yards or see #6 in pros:

My son in law is infected with the Jeep thing to.if the price is right and you need a truck cool, but mileage and maintenance with a Bump will cost more a younger truck. but no smog test and if you like to tinker that is a plus, and they do look cool.I have owned my '68 for 20 years and expect to drive it for another 20,and the kids both want it when I am gone! It is the ideal truck for me. :2cents:

The only cons I would say it drum brakes on the front and the manual steering. Both easy fixes if that is a problem. Pros would be the dana 60 rear, divorced transfer case, leaf spring front suspension and plenty of engine choices and mods.

Did a F250 hi boy ever have a dana 60 front? I had a 76 f250 4x4 for parts and it had a dana 40. ( not sure if it was the original front axle tho)

They're not highboys but 78/79 F250's with the sno-fighter package came with D60's up front.

Im a jeep guy also but foremost a ford guy  have a 98 wrangler and a 05 grand cherokee.... the ford is what I like work on though but the wrangler seems to be takin my time lately.. I think the F250 4x4 would be the best if any except a crewcab  I have a 69 F250 2wd and the 72 F350 crew and the F250 has the D60 and most likely the D44 front (not a fan of D44 but can be changed out) I also have another 68 F250 4x4 frame & parts to convert my 72 to 4x4 so am real happy with the fords as I also have a chevy and hate the distributor in the back among other things (older chevy cracking the frame at the steering box, bending the hood at the hood hindge mounting point...etc..etc..) so if the price is right cant go wrong..
