how diffecult is it to put electrnic ignition on a 360 in my 70 f100

I did the petronix unit. It fits in the origonal dist, replaces the points. It was real easy, but sure doesn't have the power that a MSD or Mallory puts out. My truck for some reason kept burning out my MSD. I am not a hot rodder anymore anywho.

What do you mean when you say the Petronix doesn't have the power of the other unit? Thanks.

The one I am running uses the same stock style coil. The other one uses a high performance coil. It wasn't out when I bought mine.

When I changed from the MSD dist to the petronix, I notice a huge performance drop. It just doesn't have the snap it used to. I still also need to get my dist I have now recurved. That will help a bunch.

Don't get me wrong. I do like the Petronix unit.

The MSD and the Mallory dist I used to run also used the higher performance coils.

Any auto shop should be able to get you one. The Pertronix Ignitor is around $80-90 and the Pertronix Ignitor II is around $120-130. Two screws and a couple wires is all. The directions will walk you through it.

I Run an all MSD set up.

The Petronix unit's are good and alot of peolpe have run them for along time.

check ebay for the pertronix stuff, or msd for that matter.

the install, remove your points, set the pertronix unit in place, slip the magnetic collar onto the rotor post, adjust the gap, hook up the two wires to the coil, replace the cap and rotor, and fire it up.
i gave 56 bucks for my pertronix ignitorI on ebay... new in box with warranty....

one of these days, i'm going to have to check out the msd, but pertronix just came out with a box that throws two sparks through out the entire rpm range..........

I swapped over to the later ford Duraspark deal. I just liked the idea of using the Ford stuff. But mostly, I like hunting the bone yards especially if I have a purpose. I would imagine that the pertronix unit is an easier swap, though.
