high boy springs

Post by Manny »

all right fellas i have a question for you guys. How high does the factory high boy sit in the front. And if known what arch do the springs have, and can you get stock replacements. I have been researching out on the internet haven't found anything yet. The thing i want to know is how bad mine have sagged been pondering goin up 2 inches but if i have 2 inches of sag in the springs would hate to wind up with 4 inches of lift with 2 inch springs. So any information would be greatly appreciated fellas i thank you :thup:

Im kinda in the same boat. I have a 72 highboy and was wanting to know if there are any specs on the factory springs out there so I can see if mine have sagged too. I dont wanna have to buy new springs if I don't need to.

try here not sure but scroll down to f250 style side and look under f250 4x4 and you should see how and where to measure http://www.fordification.com/dimensions.htm course this only really applies to high boys that haven't been lifted

That would work but I have my truck tore down to the frame and the springs on the ground. Just wondering if there are specs out there to measure the bare springs.

Call a spring shop and ask for 1973 F250 4x4 spring info. They are only different by one leaf added to the front packs.

There are two options for highboy springs from the factory, they both sat the same height though. The light GVW trucks (90% of them) had 5 leaf packs and the 7700 GVW trucks have 6 leaf front packs. The spring options and GVW choices are pretty much identicle from 66-77.5. 67 did not have the 7700 GVW option as far as I know.

Your other option is to go with late model SuperDuty springs. You will have a shorter wheelbase, but the ride is better.

I sourced my springs thru Cage Offroad. The guy there has a 74 Crew 4x4 he is doing, so he understands the issues we face.

Ask for Jim - but he may be out hunting this week.

Good luck!

Here in new york there is a spring place thats 40 years in business and they say if the truck sits even and the springs are not inverted they are probably good.So I sandblasted mine and painted them. I also was told the new steel is'nt as good as even 30 year old steel

I don't have the spec atm, but alignment specs will give a ride height measurement, and usually where to take the measurement. If I have a service manual, or someone else, with the spec I'll post it for future reference. The measurement will at least let you know if your springs are sagged, and give you a starting point for figuring lift.

chevy tough rebel====1972 if you have 5 leafs c7tz 5310 j if you have 6 leafs c7tz 5310 v
look in npd for arch info
they say for 72 with 5 leaf 5 3/8" center of eye to top of spring where center bolt is
they do not list a height for 6 leaf
they have listed that all short ends (26 inches) and long ends(27 1/2 inches) are the same and spring width at 3 inches for the 67 to 79 f250
they do have listed a 74 to 76 6 leaf at 3 5/8 inches
