240-6 Engine rebuild

Post by furnitureguy-123 »

Can anyone give me the name of a reliable, knowledgable supplier for all of the internals of my 240-6? May want to upgrade some items, performance wise, but mostly looking for a supplier that can supply what I need. I am familiar with most of the guys out there, but they all seem to have the same parts. Would I be better going through the machine shop that is going to do my work?

Thanks :fr:

Often, YES. If you can find a local place that has done a 240 or 300 and at least knows what they are, and they have a decent reputation, then I'd listen to their recomendations.

If you want to do some serious reading on the topic, then head on over to www.fordsix.com That is the inline heaven.

Do some reading -- it will serve you well even if you hire out the whole rebuild, you'll be better able to answer your builder's questions.

Ive been all over fordsix but I see an awful lot of car related small sixes. Its a good site but I havent found much on the truck big sixes. One thing Id like to know is where I can find a book on teardown and rebuild of the 240/300 so I have a clue what Im doing. Im anxious to start working on my 240 also.

Huuhhh???

Go to the big six forum and use the search function...

There is no book for big six teardown, but the factory shop manual is actually pretty good, if you read it a couple times...

I guess if you want to do just a cookbook stock rebuild, then the fordsix site is not perfect for you. It does not have step by step instructions. But if you read up and learn some, you can get tons of valuable info there and questions answered as well.

Yeah youre right. I finally went into the forums on there and there is a whole category for the 240/300. I just need to spend some time surfing.

I just went through a 10 month rebuild on my 240. I'm not an expert by no means but I do have answers and know where some of the best deals are for replacement parts. I am going to post some pics of my rebuild tonight so check 'em out. If you have any questions for me, let me know.

Flyboy, go to faxonautolit.com! I bought the 4 manual set for my 66 stepside on cd for 30.00.
I wasn't sure about the cd but now that I've used it I love it.
Easy to navigate and you can print what you want and take it to the shop with you.
I dont know how to attach a link but you will find it.
