Im using a 06 crown vic suspension and its time to mount the motor and trans. I have a set of 5.0l explorer motor plates and a stock set of vicky mounts. My question is since clearing the steering box isn't a problem now should I mount the motor more in the center of the engine bay? Or leave it offset like the factory?
1968 swb hydroboost, ididit tilt column, Saginaw p/s pump with F series serpentine, all led lights, Vintage Air and painless wiring. 393w, tko600. CV front suspension w/c5 calipers and gt500 rotors. Stock Flexomatic leaf springs with 01 CV 8.8, 3.90 gears and Auburn locker. Custom wood bed floor. Full frame off resto-mod.

i would take into consideration of how to hook up the driveshaft when figuring that out. the rearend is offset. so maybe it would be easier to offset the engine to match it.

I'm also doing the CV swap and currently finishing up my motor mounts. I had the same question and intended to center everything but then I thought about all the other little things. I'm keeping the manual tranny for now so i wanted the clutch z-bar to work as before. I also thought about a fan shroud, I dont have one now but thought if I do get one its going to off center. You;d also have to take into account the throttle linkage and shifter hole (I've got a floor mounted 4speed). The tranny mount will also have to be modified and centered

All these little things convinced me to just put the motor back where it was originally.

Ford trucks get angry when you center the drivetrain. Everything is meant for the offset. When you change it you open a can of worms. I prefer the offset. It makes so many things simpler.

I agree with leaving it offset. One of the most difficult things I can think of dealing with if you tried to center it would be the trans, the cab is designed for the trans to be offset. Front suspension would be another thing needing some adaptation. Too much work imo.
