I need to replace my stock manifolds on my 1970 302. The passenger manifold has a tube that goes up to the carb. Is this for the choke? Which years will the manifolds work for me? I am looking for a bolt in replacement because I cannot afford to replace the rest of my exhaust system right now, outta work.
Thanks,
Chris

Yes that is for the hot air choke. Don't worry about it. Just get a manifold that looks like it will bolt up to the existing system and just put that tube back where it was on the original manifold.
The FE's had the same thing and when I bought my '70, the tube was broken at the manifold but it still went to the carburetor. The tube and the choke will be ok as long as it has contact with the carburetor.

Side oiler FE, see if you can catch me!!!

Re: 1970 302 exhaust manifolds
Just to add a little more info, that is a 2 tube system that pulls cold air from the air cleaner side of the carb via a connection to the carb. That line runs to the bottom of the exhaust manifold. The air runs thru the choke stove chamber and returns to the automatic choke housing via the second line.
This is supposed to be a sealed system as there is a vacuum routed thru the carburetor to the automatic choke housing which is why it pulls the cold air from the top side of the carburetor.
John's Mustangs sell the replacement tubes if you need them.
One of the suppliers (NPD, LMC, DC...can't remember) sells the lower bushing to the choke stove chamber on the manifold as well as the mesh screen if you want to go that far with it. Most of the time the upper hole gets corroded and has to be reworked. The whole problem with this hot air choke system is that it is always going to have corrosion issues with it. Lots of folks just get an electric choke assy and wire it in to get rid of the hot air system.
I have a decent manifold (except for the choke chamber) if you want it. The the top hole is wobbled out and there is a small hole in the wall between the choke chamber and the exhaust flow. If someone knows how to weld cast it could be a fairly ez fix.
