Shelter Logic 12X26 10 legged truck shelter update-4/10

Post by 1971ford »

today i bought a Shelter Logic 12X26 10 legged truck shelter from pepboys. there were two parts when buying. one was canopy part (Just roof, and all frame) for $250, and the other was the enclosure kit (sides, front zip up door, and rear wall) for $100. the total was $365 ish.
the instructions are great, and it is easy and quick to assemble the whole thing.
step 1)lay out everything (except legs) in the order that they will be once finished. then connect them all and set roof on top
step 2)lift one end up and put a few legs on
step 3)lift other end and put a few legs on
step 4)put all remaining legs on
step 5)put sides on, and front and back.
step 6)secure everything (lots of things to secure, making it very trustable)

then just anchor down however you want.

i have only one complaint. the sides are a few inches short, allowing a inch of space on each end of the sides. ill have to come up with some sort of patch to fix this.

here is just a few pictures, for 20 other pictures, see the following link.

UPDATE:
now that its been a while, i would like to update :D

since i got it we have had lots of rain and winds. this thing is AWESOME! the sides have kindof stretched, so there isnt a gap in the corners anymore, zippers still work great, water doesnt come close to building up at the top, no water gets inside, its warmer when i go in there when its cold (ill have to open up both sides in the summer though!) and

ive constantly moved inner fenders and such around inside, and scraped the walls and think "uh oh i probably just slashed the tarp open" with the amount of force that was put on the tarp with a corner of a innerfender, but i havent come close to making a whole in the tarps.

the tarp also allows 90% of light in

the only thing ive done to the structure to help its survival (i actually did it so the corners dont scooch in), is i got some wire and pulled each corner leg out a little and secured it to the house and shed.

im working on my truck in the shelter while its pouring all the time. no problemo

-water proofness - 5/5
-durability - 5/5
-wind noise on tarp - 4/5 its right beside my room, in big winds, i can hear it a little

do you and your bump a huge favor and get one!

Only problem I had with mine was forgetting to re attach it to the anchors after moving it. Santa Ana winds blew real hard and scooped it up and put it thru the fence and almost into the neighbors window.

I came home today to see a shredded mess of a tent with my freshly painted '69 under it, along with my drenched split-bench seat, soaked original radio and many other parts, and now im without a place to work in the winter, or store parts. :x :x :x

I am looking to replace mine.
I originally bought a Cover-it (now shelter logic). I got it in 1996. It is just now starting to split at the top. Unfortunatly it cost just as much to get a new cover as it is to get the whole setup. Here is the key.
Get the heavy duty top 14.5 oz. It will last for years and years. I live in VT with very high winds and 10-12 ft of snow every year. This thing has held up. I also suggest getting the round top. It doesn't hold snow and stands up to wind better.

I found one around here for $719. It is considerably more expensive, but I think will be well worth it in the end. I have 14 years into my first one. It didn't cost that much 14 years ago, but even if it did, that's only $50 a year.
