Oh don't worry i'm a wrench by trade working for caterpillar on dozers i've already got a new truck grind cam in the block, and pulled the pan down lots of good in the 360. Don't worry i got it covered more pics to come on the engine job.

re: 67' 250 hi boy CS updates: caution lot o pics
Wow it's been a while since i updated my thread. Well here goes.
I found the old classic nylon teeth gears behind the front cover, and a pitted to death cam.
Pulling the pan, and a couple of caps revealed the bottom end was solid though cold still see corss hatching on the cylinder walls.
I took all the parts to work hot tanked them then threw them in the blast cabinet made aworld of difference.
Some paint makes it better.
Got the block cleaned up, and painted.
It now has a truck grind cam dynagear timing set, and of course new lifters.
Here is a shot after the s code intake 4100 autolite witha the wood carb spacer, then a milodon high flow water pump fan, and clutch fuel pump, and balancer.
Got the pan back on don't worry the sides of the block will get cleaned when i've got the front clip off, and installing the headers.
Some tweaking made the linkage work out just fine.
Then a msd coil my pertronix dissy, and autolite wires, and plugs gives a stock style look.
Before the air cleaner mods while test driving. it ran so much better.
Now i wanted the air cleaner to look stock but be different so i pulled the snorkel welded the captured nuts up, and smoothed it down.
Then cut a template, and started cutting hole number two.
Little clean up.
Then it got sanblasted bondo on the lid paint work, and fatory decals. Check this out i love it. The look i wanted.
There is an update for ya more coming o the old truck.

Looks good. I am glad you got a girl who can jump in and help instead of standing there, telling you what you are doing wrong and never even touching a vehicle before.

I'm suprised that low rise intake works with your 360 heads.
Looks pretty sharp, I do like the dual cutout air cleaner-Looks like it could've come that way factory.
You will always see crosshatches in the cylinders looking up from the bottom. Cylinder bores only wear on the upper third or so of the bore.

The comment for the air cleaner yeah i wanted it to look like it could've been a factory piece so thanks!
For the bores maybe i should've specified i know what you talking about you can see the cross hatch were only the skirt hits but with the piston up at tdc the bores are smoothed from wear and running in but not like glass glazed where the rings ride towards the top f the bore. Sorry for not clarifying

Manny, nice work. My brother built a similar air cleaner for his dent but he added a second snorkle. It's kinda cool too.1971ford wrote:ive never seen someone do so much to an engine with out pulling it. i want to clean and repaint my 69's engine, i was planning on pulling it, but im just going to do the same as you now. great thread!
Ryan, I'll post a few pics of some of the diesels I build at work.I've often had them down to all that was left in the truck was the block and crankshaft.

Thanks you diesel mechanic to alleycat. I work for cat on earthmoving machinery, and have worked on trucks before. Yeah nothing like pulling a 3412 down to nothing in the back end of a 990.AlleyCat wrote:Manny, nice work. Thanks ryan for you compliments the beuty of these old trucks is once you get the radiator, and the water pump off you can stand in front of the motor, and get to it easily. One piece of advice make sure to run by, and grease lighting the whole engine, and the pressure wash it before starting to tear it down.

Think it's like de 1601 the camera makes it light it's dupli color ford blue.
Here is more
All righty well to test out the new engine how bout a load of brick.
The 360's still got that grunt. At a price of 10-11mpg. I unloaded at the old fill site.
The thought of If a battleship could flex.....
My way back home one night after visiting with my mother.
Then i repaired my damaged axle stud, and did some paint.
The rear wheels had been painted, an had new lug nuts so they just got a good bath.
then the front.
Alaina did this she ain't bad
Meanwhile i worked on the wheels and then installed them with new lugs up front nice.
However the one thing i didn't pull off the motor blew a gasket. I got lucky though all the exhaust fasteners pulled out.
I cheated here.
The manifolds are shot they are so pitted i had to use some red rvt to get um quiet however there are a set of headers in this trucks future.
That's all for now.

Manny, pulling a manifold back to change a gasket without dropping the pipe isn't cheating, it's wrenching. Looking good
