rusted areas pics added

I got the front clip off my 68,found more rust than expected( what a surprise )
Has anyone had rust on the underneith area above the mastercylinder where the cowl meets the fire wall? You would have to look up with your head kinda close to firewall (hope i describe good enough) looks like i will have to cut small pieces and do some patch work.
When i start looking at the rusted areas its kind of discouraging.
I will post some pictures in a day or so.
Also the normal, floors, one cab support,cab crossover support,a couple spots on the firewall inside fender area.
I fill like this will be the hard part, when this is done it will be down hill, if the i don't loose interest, been waiting for 6 years to start. Sorry for the long post kinda a rant.

Just jump in there and get the hard stuff done first, then you can take your time on the good stuff. Don't give up. I ran into some rust myself (good thing I had a tetnus shot) . It'll slow you down, but it's part of the fun.

It's definitely possible to get rust anyplace there's a seam, since moisture can get up between them and go to work. What makes it worse is if the truck's been undercoated, since that actually starts to come apart and then will hold moisture even worse. One of the first cabs I dragged home for my '67 project had some fairly severe firewall rust. I cut the rust out, cut some patch panels and was just getting ready to start welding them in when I ran across a different cab to use instead. See the pics at the following link:

I'm with you Craftsman, I'm finding discouraging rust myself. However, I'm going to stick it out and do what I can. Hang in there. You will be proud once you get over the rust hump.

Keep us updated on your progress. I'll need the encouragement myself.

if theres a junkyard cab somewhere that is wrecked, or rusted out eslewhere, cut patch panels from it! it will make it fit perfectly and MUCH easier.

Ditto that. A battery powered sawzall and a couple extra batteries make life so much easier when fitting the parts back together. The floors and cab mounts for my '71 came from a '77 bronco. It took three batteries and one blade to cut out both floors with my craftsman sawsall... Most yards won't let you take a torch into the yard anymore.

Those trucks both look very repairable. After seeing some of the hot rods these guys have built from literally 2 halfs of a rusted out pair of cars, I have faith in almost anything. Of course skill is needed, but I have faith!

Well, all that is fixable. Do you weld much? Do you want to learn? Now is the time. This of it this way. How much does a new truck cost? How much does a welder cost? Do you want a truck that will apreciate with age or depreciate once you drive it off the lot and then continue to depreciate every oil change.

You can do it. I've never seen that rust around the column before so most cabs won't have that and it will be an easy spot to cut from another cab. Cab mounts are easy to buy and those flat spots in the cab corners are easy to cut from a old hood.

I will be welding a lot soon , i already cut some rust out and i have some metal to cut and weld in. This is the first i have had to tackle rust problems so it will be a learning experience.
