Locking gas cap

Post by Merlin68F100 »

Just because the tank in the cab is an easy target, and it will now hold ~ $45 worth of gas I have been thnking about putting a locking gas cap on my truck. The only issue I have is they are butt ugly IMHO. Anybody have a good looking locking cap?

I have also thought about puttig a chicken wire screen in the filler tube to prevent the use of a Mississippi credit card

How about this one with a nifty cover over the lock?

You can get it here and probably other places too.

Yeah, that is a bit pricey.
I've though about a locking cap, but I think the chicken wire idea is better!

You can get those caps from NPD as well, I've got more than one...

LONG story.

It WILL NOT fit a 72 (and probably 71) without significant modifications.

Yep, just don't make the mistake of thinking "70-72 should be the same thing" :o They ain't, even though most other gas caps list through 72.

In fact I had a heck of a time finding a cap that actually fit my 72.

DC, that sounds pricey but its less than a tank of go-juice. It would only have to work once to pay for its self.

They used to sell a spring to put in there that would not allow a hose to be inserted. Of course they could just go under the truck and cut the rubber fuel line and let the gas run out.
I always figured that any gas I loose to a kid with a hose is small payment for all the gas we siphoned when I was a kid. What goes around, comes around. At todays prices, my truck seldom sits with more that 3-4 gallons in it anymore. I only buy enough to get where I.m going and back.
