Crown Vic IFS Tubular Control Arms - Not Fat Man Fabrications

Post by Aerocoupe »

I posted on another thread about the tubular control arms that Fat Man Fabrications is making for the CV IFS but they are shortened to fix the problem of the hub to hub being too wide for some folks. You can read my post here:

http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=87774

Fat Man has said no to stock length control arms. I went out on my own and contacted CHE and they are interested. I have a thread on this over on MercuryMarauder.net located here:

https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/ ... p?t=106416

It may be a pain in the ass to keep that one, a thread here, and one over on crownvic.net updated so I am just going to keep that one up to date until CHE says they will do it for sure or not. My guess is CHE will get something going, come up with a price, and then see what the masses think. Then again they could just make a few sets and see how it goes. In case you do not know who CHE is go here:

https://www.cheperformance.com/

For anyone building an F100 the shorter control arms that Fat Man is building makes sense but for those that have already done this and have one or two sets of wheels having stock length tubular control arms would be a lot cheaper route to a better suspension and a solution to replace the LCA front bushing rather than having to buy the whole LCA.

So I found a source for the uppers and the upper frame brackets, not cheap by any means but I figured I would post it up anyhow:

One of the members on MercuryMaruader.net is also working on them and his site is here although no mention of them yet:

So I think I have potentially found the CV IFS lower control arm forward bushing. I have been hacking at Google searches when time has allowed and basically when its been too cold to much of anything else. What I have found is the MevoTech bushing P/N MS40401 which when I used the vehicle fit check their site shows it to work for 2003-2011 CV's both civilian and police/taxi.

https://partsonline.mevotech.com/details/ms40401

I emailed a known aftermarket supplier to the Mercury Marauders, Grand Marquis, and Crown Vics and he concurred that it appears to the be the correct bushing. I contacted MevoTech via their website and asked them to clarify that this is in fact the bushing I am looking for so we will see if they reply.

The whole reason I have been hunting them instead of just purchasing a new LCA is 1) they are incredibly expensive for what you get, 2) the cost of the ball joint and one bushing is literally 1/3 of the cost of the new LCA, and 3) I want to powder coat my LCA's.

I was going to wait to order a set until I heard back from MevoTech but the aftermarket supplier said they are a good bushing manufacturer so I went ahead and ordered a set and will post back up with my findings. I figure for $28 each its worth a shot to see if they are in fact correct.
