69 Instrument panel

Post by mrgreen73 »

Is the gauge cluster with all gauges interchangable with the idiot light version? I bought a 69 truck thats missing intr panel. I bought a used one
but im not sure which one the truck had originally. I did not buy printed panel version. After looking close at plug from truck to gauge, all the wires match up except two. The gauge cluster has a red and yellow wire , my truck plug at those two spots are different.

Do some searching on the "shunt".

My admittedly somewhat foggy recollection is that the trucks with gauges had an AMP gauge and had a shunt in the wiring harness per the wiring diagram. I do not know if anyone ever got it working in a non gauge truck.

You should be able to get a voltmeter working, you'll likely have to change the sender if it is a non-gauge truck to get oil pressure working.

The oil sender will tell you what used to be there, a small, flat one was used with a light, larger, bulbous one for a gauge.
