Timing cam gear spacer

Just replaced my old timing chains with new Cloyes gears/ chain, and noticed the cam gear sits a couple mm closer to the block than the crank gear. I know I've seen people mention a spacer that is sometimes needed behind the thrust plate, but I can't find it in any part diagrams. Anyone have an idea what/where I'm missing something?

According to an article on diyford.com/camshafts they explain that early sbf (pre 65 had two piece thrust plates and different thickness plates were available. It depends on camshaft end play as to what is needed.
