Drive engagement

Good day gentlemen. I’ve got a 71 F2 50 camper special with a 390 and a C6 tranny.
1: How have you guys tried to resolve the alignment between the steering column shifter and the transmission lever. I have a new bushing in there and it seems still a little off.

2: I don’t have the truck on the road yet. But when I moved it on and off the trailer for my daughter‘s wedding, both in drive and in reverse, it seems like it would slip out of gear and then slip back into gear on its own. Checked tranny fluid, there’s enough in there, and it does not look or smell burnt

What should I be looking at first. I have never really done automatic transmissions.

1)

There is adjustment at the linkage at the transmission. My memory is a little foggy but there is at least one jamb nut. I can't remember if you have to take the linkage loose or not.

2)

Might be related to 1) but if not id start with checking the modulator and vacuums supply to it (only short lengths of rubber) along with a good earnest hot fluid check on level ground.

Up date, have not really played with the linkage yet but I did get a black band? modulator. Swapped it out, made sure that pin did not get lost. Still have same issue, the vac lines comes from a block on the intake, left side rear, that also supplies vac for the brakes.

Thoughts?

Vac supply sounds correct, goes too a metal line correct?

How much has it been driven? If sitting for a long time the lip seals may have hardened they may or may not soften with use. Has it ever been overhauled?

DuckRyder. She is not on the road yet. I has set for at least a year maybe. Yes metal line.

I'm note sure if my Father even had this tranny serviced. My mother does not know, Dad passed in 08 and left me the truck. She was running ok tranny wise, for a few years before I started to restore her about 4 years ago, still working on her.

I did take the engine and tranny to put in new freeze plugs all around, even the ones at the back of the engine. I did have an issue when I tried to
connect the tranny back to the engine but got some help with that got that worked out.

so maybe just drive her more?

In light of having issues with reinstalling the trans I would check the line pressure. It’s very easy to damage the pump it the TC is not properly seated. (Don’t ask me how I know)

If it has never been overhauled you must use Type F fluid.

If the line pressure is good and it’s just from sitting use may or may not help,

IIRC only adjustment is the band and kick down.

Ok, update. Still having the issue. I have replaced the tranny fluid and filter. Driven it down my street a few times and it seems to get a little better, but still will "engage, disengage Engauge" while in D. When put in reverse, it stays "engaged" longer, but still has the same issue.

FWIW if you want to learn to rebuild automatic transmissions the C6 is a great one to learn on. Very simple and robust unit.
