A dash pad is what our trucks were originaly equiped with. A cover is a plastic piece that covers up the pad if the pad has been damaged, and you do not want to replace the pad. I'd recomend PPG DBI or DIU for the interior. It is exactly the same as automotive refinish paint but has flatener added to cut down the shine. Ive repainted a dash pad by scuffing it with a 3M 9447 scotch bright pad, prepping, and then spraying it. If you dont want or have a paint gun, use interior dye sold at automotive paint supply stores. An excellent dash pad can be found in junk yards for 10-20 dollars.

My original dash pad is in perfect condition but I bought a fabric dash cover from LMC just to protect it from accidental damage and the sun's rays. It fits perfect laying on top with cutouts for the defroster vents plus it looks great too. I think the plastic covers sold are called dash caps which slip over your existing padded dash and almost looks original except it's hard plastic. Many folks have removed their original busted up dash pad and just painted the metal dash with excellent results, it looks very slick!

That's right folks...let's not let them reproduce in a careless manner....always have your dashpads spayed.
(Sorry FoMoCo...I just had to do that.)

Ok sorry this is a little off topic but why are leaves, etc. always being sucked up and like end up on my dash pad, even when theres no way any leaves can get in the doors. I know this is the ventilation system but how do it fix it?

I thought I had a couple better pics, but these are the only comes I can find at the moment:

In the last pic, if you look really closely at the upper right corner of the dash (right next to the passenger wing window) you can see a small hole, which is one of the attachment points for the dashpad that wasn't filled when this owner removed the pad.

Painted steel is the way to go - 67 was first year for padded due to safety stuff, but the look of painted steel is so much nicer. You can also upholster the thing with tuck & roll.

Exactly how many mounting points are there on a dashpad and can they be accessed without dismantling the whole dash?

There are 8 across the back (along the windshield) and 6 across the front. In this shot you can see the holes that would need to be filled. The slots allow you to slide the pad forward a little after removing the nuts from the dashpad studs, so that it will clear the windshield when during removal.

FoMoCo, I will take all the good $20 dollar dash pads you can get your hands on and pay you good money to remove them!!
Does anyone have pictures of re-uppolstered dash pads? I have seen a couple with the stitched seam along the front crown and they looked really nice.
My 69 gas the cover thing and it looks ok, alot better than a cracked one, but it sags down a little in front of the insterments. The big holes in the speaker grill are always a dead give-away though.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
