Won’t crank

Post by 70xlt »

I’m at end of road. Rebuilt engine, was running good with points. Now it will not crank, reset points at 18 ish, new coil and condense, basically all new. One thing, the dash is out of truck to replace voltage regulator on back of instrument panel, not sure exact name but gauges went out all at once, will truck crank if dash not hooked up? Or any ideas to get fire so I can get to mechanic monday

First try another condenser. Notoriously bad right out of the box. Points should be set at .019-.021. If all that fails, make a jumper wire with alligator clips on each end. Clip one end to the + post on the battery. the other end to the plus side of the coil. If it won't turn over with the key, jump the terminals at the solenoid. When you get where your going, pull the jumper wire loose to kill it. I drove my '74 Dodge Dart with a toggle switch for 3 months hooked up like that till I figured out what was wrong.
