LED Headlamp

Post by Gray035 »

Has anyone used these headlamps? Are they really plug and play? Are they any good?

I've used Cree led light bars on my boat and truck and haven't had any issues with them but haven't used these......for that price I'm tempted to try a set.......

Yeah. The price seems pretty good, but it makes me wonder if there is another component required to make them run.

I believe you'll still need to run them thru a relay harness connected to a full 12v battery source. It says "plug and play from original OEM halogen headlights". We require the relay system to run halogen headlights. Not a big deal but it is a required modification to upgrade your headlights.

Not trying to sound dumb but could you give an example of the relay system and where to buy it?......... :?

LMC Truck sells a harness for around $30. PN 47-3660 or you can make your own. You install relays to draw power directly from your battery triggered by the headlight/dimmer switch. I would use a 50amp fuse or circuit breaker between the battery and the relays

Might be OK on a Battlestar Galactica edition truck but totally wrong look for a classic. I won't run that style LED on my bike because it just doesn't 'look' correct. I run the Silverstar on the bike and it lights way better than the H4 drop in LED's would.

I'm currently running a pair of Sylvania's Extravision 7" lamps in the purple box on the dually and they project a lot of light with just the stock wiring setup. Color is a nice pale yellowish white. I honestly loved the look of my factory '68 lamps and kick myself for breaking one. I love driving my 34k mile '68 Fairlane at night just for how nice the original lights project.

Thanks! One more dumb question and I'll leave you alone...... Should I be running these with halogen headlights? I changed out the sealed beams when I got it and have been told they pull too much juice for the stock wiring.....and I really don't want to burn up my perfect never cut harness.........

I would install the relay system if I was you. In my opinion, the headlight switch and dimmer switch are the weakest links in the electrical system. Our wiring harnesses were never designed for that kind of continuous load and all power to the headlights runs through the switches. Wiring the headlights with relays turns the switches into more like a gate valve than a pipeline. That way the load from the headlights and that wiring circuit is greatly reduced. It's especially beneficial if you decide to upgrade your alternator or run more accessory circuits.

I'm thinking of getting this to eliminate the flashing hi-beams as the replacement headlight switches seem to be Chinese garbage.I'm hoping this will solve the problem. LMC lists the PN as 36-3580-F. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fb/full.aspx?Page=99

That's a pretty good deal for plug and play. I'd have $100 in time gathering parts and making one up.
