Temperature Control Cable

Post by Southcoast Bump »

My temperature control cable on my '71 F100 has broken, right at the HVAC controls....how do I remove the HVAC control unit to reach the cable connection itself? I want to see if I can repair the connection rather than replacing the cable as plan A....plan B is full cable replacement...I'm getting moderate heat output so it's not a critical repair. Thank you.

It's a booger to get to but only held in by two nuts on the back side. Here's a write up showing the mount and cable connections of a factory A/C control. http://www.fordification.com/tech/AC-cables.htm You just about have to remove the glove box liner and the radio to get to those nuts. There's not much slack to pull the controls out the front of the dash. You have to loosen the cable clamp mounts to pull it out any further. Good luck!
