Molded Carpet

Post by Rich100 »

I am going to install a molded carpet in my 1968 F100. I have a bunch of questions.
1. The Hump measures 6" in height (it had a 360 with a manual 3 speed in it when new).
2. Loop or cut pile? Which is preferred (original not necessary).
3. What do you think of that sound deadener stuff that has the "Tar" on one side?
4. LMC has a "Mat" that goes under the carpet, costly, but is it worth it?

It is 3 below zero this morning, I am going to wait until summer to install :)

1.. Dunno about hump heights.. all my Bumps and Dent are manual trans.
2...I prefer loop carpet. Cut pile is harder to vacuum IMO.
3...Like dynamat, fatmat, and boom mat? Endorse. Attenuates road noise and stops large panels from drumming.
4... LMC is typically overpriced. Shop around like a good consumer.

Recently installed the dynamat on the floor board, overhead and in my doors. I used the 10x10 sheets for the doors and overhead. Used the longer stuff on the floor. Kind of a pain to do it that way as it sticks like heck. Might not in 3 degrees. I am hoping all stays up on in 100 plus degrees.

Thanks to both off you. I have been checking around, its quality that I am looking for. I sent for samples from Mac's, I thought that I would get a sample of their carpet, nope just pieces of paper. So i still don't know what Mac's has.

Several members have installed Stock Interiors carpet and gave it good marks. http://www.stockinteriors.com/?gclid=CI ... 7Aod8l4AqQ For sound deadening and insulation, I went a cheaper route and am very satisfied with how it came out https://fordification.com/forum/viewtop ... 8160178458

The people in my stereo turntable forums use dynamat to cancel out harmonics. I never found a place where I could afford to buy it. but I've seen it and it is almost the same if not exactly like Quick Roof aluminum. I comes in a 6 inch X 25 foot roll and you can mould it an contour it to different shapes. It's like that Bear Bond stuff (NASCAR) only has a heavy aluminum backing,, but limber ya know. Cut it with scissors too. Sticks to anything but I give the surface a quick dust/blowdown/wipe with laquer thinner. I used about a roll of it in my doors inside and it definately quieted the the "tin can" sound. I will be using it under my headliner too.
Not a bad gamble for a try. It's only about $25 for a roll. You can get it at Home Depot. Here it is on Amazon (you can read the lable): http://www.amazon.com/Cofair-Products-Q ... of+extreme

I like ACC carpet the best. Perfect fit in my 72 Camaro and 71 F250.

For insulation/sound deadening. I use Peel and Seal from Lowes in both the Camaro and F250. The F250 only needed 4 rolls for the floor and ceiling. Works great and cheaper than the other options.
