Plum ugly sentenced to be shot...

Post by FREEHAND »

Well as the title suggests, this is my thread on bringing my not so attractive '70 (with 69 grill) swb flareside f100 out of it's current state of plum ugly into what will hopefully be a mean looking flat black truck with a slick red and cream interior, and I'm going to see what I can do with the stance and spruce up the wheels a bit. By the way this is all being done on a ridiculously tight budget... For instance, I already have a gallon of black primer... so thats what is going on it. Also I have enough Ferrari scuderia red and clear to get the interior shot so I think we may have a winner even while pinching the pennies. Im working with what I've got but the end goal is to have a truck that doesn't look hodge podge and is done correctly. I spent my time early on getting the wiring, motor, brakes, etc. sorted so I'd have a drive-able truck and I've been itching to get to this part. Heres a few pics of it as of now. Like I said, P L U M U G L Y paint but hopefully not for long. Rust repaired early this week and bodywork being done now so it's well on it's way !
:woohoo:

Your truck is NOT ugly, it is a beautiful site to be able to drive it around.

well if you think of it your lucky its not an old faded hot pink with purple stripes and 1/2 bondo every where under the paint with "30 dubs wheels on it that wobble down the road lol
your truck may not be the best looking ( its not that bad)around town but I bet there are by far uglier than what you have

so what makes your truck motivate down the road!

Thanks for all the comments guys! I think its a great looking truck too, the plum color is just doesn't do it for me but thats soon to change. Got a chance to get out there and get some headway made this weekend. Did some modifying on the front bumper to smooth it up a bit and make it "fit" a little better. I also had to do a good bit of work to do on the valence that is behind the grill, it was dented and beer-canned in the middle but a little time with a shrinking hammer took care of that. It's amazing how the small things make such a BIG difference. Got the bodywork on the hood and door bottoms/front fenders about wrapped up so it's looking better and better every day. The better it starts looking the more I like it and it puts a bit of fire under me to keep on plugging away. Heres a few pics.

Cut about 1" 5/8 section from each side welded it all back together and filled the extra holes.

Well the sun poked out and I got a chance do do a little work this evening. Started building my roll-pan. I have an extra hood that was apparently on fire at one time and has a section that is badly warped. I thought I would see what I could do with what was still good on it, and so far so good! Heres some progress pics.

Stuck it up there to see how it's going to look. It follows the body lines nicely, I think it's gonna look pretty good when it's all done 8)

Great work so far...keep it up. What's the plan for finish on the front bumper; paint or re-chrome? I definitely like how it fits tighter to the body now.
