1968 F250 Crew Cab Resto Fathers Day Present

Post by LOWERED 69 »

Hey everyone some of you may remember my crew cab restoration thread from last year. My trucks been runnin strong since and I've been workin it to its fullest. My father was in need of a reliable old pickup but both he and I had no luck finding anything. He always said if he could find a bump crew cab like mine he would get one. But they rarely pop up for sale and are next to impossible to find it seems.

Well the friday before fathers day late afternoon I came across a 1968 crew cab on craigslist, it didnt run but it was a bump crew cab! It was getting late in the evening and the P/O didnt post his phone number so I emailed him via craigslist hoping to hear back. Just when I started to think it was probably sold I got a call back. That friday night was the only night I had available to come look at the truck, I explained my father was in need of a truck and was always fond of mine but could never find one. Eric I bought the truck from was cool enough to come let me look at the truck that same night! but I would'nt be there until midnight, he was really cool about it and said come on down. We settled on a price and I was able to surprise my father on fathers day with a very very cool present. He was very stoked to say the least and kept asking me if I was being serious over and over again!

After a few days of where to go with the truck he decided to restore this truck 100% stock. The inline 6 isnt original but the 300's are great engines and he wont be towing with this truck.

Saturday we brought the truck over to my shop, and we pulled the engine and tore it down completely and sent the block and crank out yesterday. The engine had a nasty what we thought was a rod knock, turned out to be two pistons slapping in the bores.

Nah Craiger... gotta disagree with you (except when trying to make U-turns.. ).

If you are going to go big, then GO BIG!! The F350 LWB crews are just monsters! The F250 SWB crews just look too short for me. The long beds even out those trucks and make them look more in proportion while the short beds look better on the standard cabs. Just my :2cents:

Either way, its cools to see two matching color crews next to each other and even cooler to see one towing the other!
