1971 F350 Flatbed build...slowly
As some of you know I recently bought a 1971 F350 Flatbed from a local guy for $600. It had some massive side boxes on it,a diesel transfer tank and A LOT of parts, bolts, and junk in it...most of which is getting scrapped. I am going to try to keep a running total on this build. I will have plenty of questions also . Anyway here are some pics from it sitting in a field to now.

Re: 1971 F350 Flatbed build...slowly
Plans are to get it all cleaned up and running well. I need to figure out what wheels I am going to need to get rid of these split rims. I am going to replace the wood planks on the bed floor with stained planks, and repaint the bed frame Seafoam green to match the truck again. I may eventually replace the 360 with a 460....this is going to go slow, but it will go.

Looks like you got a great deal on that guy. From the pictures it looks like some heavy cleaning and an easy paint job would have it looking like new.

Wow, that's a deal. $100 worth of scrap and a $50 bench vise? I'd say that's a steal for $450!
Can't wait to see the updates!

Re: 1971 F350 Flatbed build...slowly
Man I'm hoping I have a LOT more than a hundo in scrap! Out here it's like 270-280 a gross ton...which they say is 2,240lbs. I'm sure I will be close to that with all the large(2" and bigger) bolts and solid steel pins that were in this thing. As for the vise, I would like to get rid of it..I already have a nice one....so if someone wanted to give me $50 plus the ride...it's THEIRS!tylerb43 wrote:Wow, that's a deal. $100 worth of scrap and a $50 bench vise? These tool boxes are on a 1/4"-3/8" I-beam and C-channel frame, plus there is a WHOLE LOT of 2"x1/8" angle and 1/8" plate all over it.

Magnum appears to be roughly 200 miles NW of me. I'm 60 miles due north of DFW.

Re: 1971 F350 Flatbed build...slowly
no pics yet, but I got the utility bed all cut up and swept the flatbed off ...gonna need new wood, but it's nice to see that ole truck without that funky utility bed!
I will get some pics up soon....
OH BTW I also got it running...purs like a kitten! I did remove the water pump, water outlet, heater hoses and fittings. The system was DRY...and the water outlet had corroded so bad that all the aluminum and corrosion had filled the outlet closed! Anyhow, since all I have to do is remove the harmonic balancer and timing cover, I might as well do a timing set and front seal.
