Floor shifter conversion...

Post by sublimer »

Does anyone have instructions/diagrams for the floor conversion kit.

It was popped outta gear today and I was (stupidly) jerking it all around to get it back in gear and it seems like I loosened some stuff in the process and it's currently sitting in my churches parking lot.

Need more info. Are you talking about aftermarket shifter?
You may have it in two gears simultaneously. Crawl under the truck and put it in neutral and go from there.

It's aftermarket, a previous owner "installed" it.

I meant to say it's stuck in 2nd. I can't get it into neutral because the assembly that holds the shifter to the truck is wobbly and loose so I can't get the leverage/angle to get it out of 2nd. I was looking for the diagrams so I can see how it connects to the truck.

Crawl under the truck with a pair of channel-lock pliers and put the transmission in neutral. Both levers should be pointing downward in neutral. Nobody is going to have a diagram of your specific shifter without knowing which aftermarket shifter is installed on your truck. Don't forget to set the e-brake and/or chalk the tires first.

ebrake doesn't work and the truck is parked on a slight downhill :( I tell people when they get in my truck they need to help me with the ebrake. That means, I pull forward a foot, they run out, grab the rock and throw it in the bed of my truck and hop back it :)

I'm hoping that if I tighten things then I can shift okay again.

It took 2 seconds to figure out what was wrong once I got underneath, I'm missing a bolt and 2 more were loose. I don't know the dimensions of the bolt, I was hoping someone here would :)

I also had 2 loose bolts. When I tightened them I was able to shift but the shifter was "wobbly" to be technical. That 3rd bolt will get things nice and stiff!

Here's some pics and a video.

Holy crap! Yeah, that's loose alright.
Bolts look like 3/8"-16 from the pics, but I can't speculate on the length...

Haha, luckily by the time it became a problem I was stopped at a light waiting for a green arrow to turn into the parking lot. I had to drive the last 100 feet from stop straight into 2nd.

I guess I'll take the bolt on the other side out tomorrow and match it :)

Ah yes! The ever popular, often maligned, Mr. Gasket 7667 "universal" floor shifter. That is, if it's a 3 spd manual. "Universal" means doesn't fit anything in particular. Had one on my bump. After about 2 years the center alignment pin wore down so bad it would just flop against the seat. Bought another one and it lasted another year. When that one came apart I rebuilt my column shift and have never been happier. Here's the 7667 instructions. http://www.mrgasket.com/Portals/0/downl ... 6_7667.pdf If it's an automatic it's the 7668. There's also a 4 spd version but I don't know the model number.

Yup, that's the one!

I plan on replacing the missing bolt and add some Loc-Tite too.
