Also does anyone have an idea of a good strong manual transmission that will link up to my 460 and a married NP205 semi easily. Right now its a 3 speed C6

Yes. You will need a short tailshaft and T case housing/adaptor. You have to disassemble the trans to do it, so it's a good time to get a basic rebuild kit and freshen it up.

Time/money ahead to find a 4x4 version than switch one over.

NP435 and T-18/T-19's are common in the configuration you'd need to replace an auto.

look for a 73-79 c6 from a 4wd. to get the trans you need for the parts.

All C6's are 3 speed..They are the strongest 3 speed that Ford used,,They are used in 460 Lincoln---down thru the whole range.....The gear ratio is the same in all, but the drums, servo pistons , & valve body internals vary in all models........there are 6 diff servo pistons=these are for 2nd gear apply..The lincoln being the softest...folks driving these cars do not want to feel the shift...I think all you other questions have been answered....Yes , they are ALL 3 speed....There is a process where you can use E4OD gearing for 1st & 2nd, but the change is small & not worth the cost...........Donnie

some reason my C6 is taking a long time to shift, I feel it disengage but than it takes awhile for it to shift and reengage, is that a sign of it going out?

If you are going to get into the C6, don't do it without this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Automatic-Transmi ... 685&sr=1-3
I have this book and it goes into step-by-step detail on how to tear it down and rebuild it. I really recommend it.
As was said, if you're going to tear it down, now is a good time to rebuild it.

First to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd ?? Could be serious, could be simple...For me to answer I need more info. I will refrain from detailed answers as I find they are mostly not appreciated on this forum........Donnie

+1 on that book. I've got the Ford and the GM versions, both are great resources.

The later it shifts=the harder it shifts.......Check your vacuum system real close..Hoses & modulator first..Is the shift from 2 to 3 also late?.........Donnie
