Put a new exhaust on the F100

Post by My427stang »

Unfortunately my new Droid doesn't do so well with pics or videos

Took off a crush bent 2.25 exhaust system from my 71 F100. I bought it from Cyclone in the mid 80's and it had been patched and repatched and ran glasspacks then turbo tubes. It was long past its useful life and didn't flow enough for a stock 352, never mind this motor

I built a full 3 inch mandrel bent out to the back of the bumper, overkill, but eventually it'll get a stroker, but for now it just runs too well.

Here is the truck

Here is a quick video of the required open header shot, didn't horse it too much, it was cold as you can see, wouldn't idle cold without the choke. Hope you can open them, they are Quicktime videos

The next one with the exhaust on, ran out of 45 degree bends, so the tailpipes will exit straight back under the bumper, but not until I get more pieces. Still on the fence on whether to use these Flowmasters or put a set of Borlas like the Mustang

I would go with just about anything over the Flowmasters. They are a known HP killer. Borla, Dynomax of Magnaflows would be my choice :2cents:
This is a flow chart that was posted on another forum:
"All tests via an independent lab
All tests @ 15” wc

2 “ Straight Pipe 283 CFM
2 ¼ “ Straight Pipe 365 CFM
2 ½ “ Straight Pipe 521 CFM

2 ¼” Typical Bent tailpipe 268 CFM
2 ½” Typical Bent Tailpipe 417 CFM

2 ¼” Inlet/Outlet_ Glass Pack Tips- No Louvers- Smooth 274 CFM
2 ¼” Inlet/Outlet- Glass Pack Tips-Louvered 133 CFM
Same as above set for reverse flow 141 CFM
2 ¼” Cherry Bomb 239 CFM
2 ½” Cherry Bomb 294 CFM

2 ½” Inlet/Outlet Dynomax Super Turbo 278 CFM
2 ½” Inlet/Outlet Ultraflow Bullet 512 CFM
2 ½” Inlet/Outlet Gibson Superflow 267 CFM
2 ½” Inlet/Outlet Flowmaster ( 2 Chamber) 249 CFM
2 ½” Inlet Outlet Flowmaster ( 3 Chamber) 229 CFM
2 ¼” Inlet/Outlet Thrush CVX 260 CFM
2 ½” Inlet/Outlet Maremount Cherry Bomb 298 CFM
2 ½” Inlet/Outlet Hooker Aero Chamber 324 CFM

I run Borla ProXS on everything and love them

The only reason these are on here now is that they were brand new off the Mustang and I was trying to save 100 bucks.

They sound good, but like you said they dont flow too well. Although it is a dual 3 inch system, all mandrel bent, so it may be enough. It sure runs better than the 2.25 crush tubes LOL

No doubt. I have 3" mandrel on my truck, all the way out the back. Sounds good when you mash on it

Pretty happy overall. Very healthy 390 +.040 now, but will get the 489 FE out of the Mustang once the new Mustang motor is done
