It could be perfectly normal. I am no drivetrain expert here. Something you might want to consider is decoding the VIN for your truck here on the site. That would at least give you some kind of idea what the truck was originally configured as. Bear in mind that only a small number of these trucks survived 40 years of service and different owners in the original configuration. So my next suggestion would be to research if your differential is the one it came equipped with. That will give you the info that the experts on here will need to provide a more complete diagnosis of the complaint. The guys on here are really good to help out......but they cant really answer just a blanket question without some background info from the owner. Welcome to the site BTW.........it is THE best online base of knowledge for this series of trucks I know of.

you have what is called an open rear. The wheel with least traction will spin. I guess you could have a locker style rear that is malfunctioning.....These type rears will spin both wheels when operating properly....There are many styles & names for a locker rear...The most common name is probably "posi traction" a generic name that a lot of folks use..
If you get the tag info off the rear axle tag & post it we can offer more help.
There should be a tag connected to one of the bolts at the center of your rear axle housing..Donnie

Not a large number of vehicle came with limited slip rear ends. Using your VIN plate and the vin decoder on this website should tell you if you have a limted slip or not. Most vehicles came with an "open" rear end, meaning that under torque conditions, one wheel does the driving. Limited slips use clutches to drive both wheels under torque conditions, until you go into a corner and the difference in speed/torque on the two wheels allows the clutches to "slip" in order to facilitate cornering. If your vehicle has a limited slip, but you are spinning only one rear wheel, it may be that the clutches are worn out.
