Transmission kick down bar
I not for sure but I think this is the kick down bar but it is not hooked up. I think it is supposed to hook up to the throttle on the carb but not sure so I figured that this is the best place to find out. Here is a pic:

YES, thats the kick down lever. Can't tell from the photo, but is there a ball stud to attach it to your carb's linkage? If not, you'll need to get the correct carb linkage. Holley does sell the parts or you can request the linkage in the parts wanted section.

No there is not any ball studs to connect it to. Is there P/N on the carb to find out which one I have to get parts for it? And if so where is it located at?

Holley's site http://www.holley.com/data/TechService/ ... isting.pdf
Look for any tags or stamped numbers on the top or sides your carb's body. I'm assuming it's a Holley judging by your photo.

Re: Transmission kick down bar
does the lever in red flip backwards? if not can you use the yellow hole and a bolt? does the yellow hole move backwards or forward? if it moves backwards you might be able to use it. if not you may have a manual carb with a automatic transmission.

Re: Transmission kick down bar
If you are going to try to "RIG" this kickdown rod , remember that it is not stroked until the last 1/8 amount of throttle travel...Best to look at a buddy's truck to see how they work...
On a Chry trans , the rod moves thru the entire travel of the throttle as it is controlling mainline pressure.........On Ford trannies, it is used for passing (2nd) gear and is only stroked at full throttle...........donnie

Re: Transmission kick down bar
You really don't need the kickdown hooked up.
You can accomplish the same thing by manually downshifting.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Re: Transmission kick down bar
Is it just me or is the accelerator arm not connected to where the kick down rod is supposed to go? I am on the shop PC and it is an old one and doesn't show pictures that bright. Maybe it is a Holley I am not used to seeing and the linkages are different from what I am used to. I bet it is a Stock Ford/Holley?
Like said you don't HAVE to hook it up but it will help the trans. drop into a lower gear easier. Mine is not hooked up right now and it'll drop a gear if I am going slow enough when I step on the gas.

Re: Transmission kick down bar
Pulling the shift lever from Dr to 2nd will accomplish a 3/2 shift as was said before but:
The kick down rod serves 2 functions, it strokes the 3/2 shift valve & also provides a boost in mainline pressure to help the band get a grip..
Remember, in drive position at say 55mph, you are in 3rd gear, or direct
the drum is turning at engine speed ( some slight variable) according to converter slip, now for 2nd to apply, the band must bring this drum to a complete stop... pulling the manual lever will let this happen, all I am adding is, the kickdown rod allows a main line pressure boost to accompany the shift valve, thus a shorter 3/2 shift & a longer life for the int band....Donnie
