Hey guys,

Trans shifter doesn't seem to like to stay in Drive. It will go in drive fine and if I am gentle with the skinny pedal, it seems to stay there. If I get on it from a stop, she wants to move past drive and like a half-way to 2nd. When it does this and I get up to about 40-45, she'll start fluttering like she doesn't know what gear she wants to be in.

If I shift it down and leave it in 2nd, she does fine and pulls strong with no apparent attempts to jump lower.

I'm thinking of checking things down the line in the following order for excessive ware.... The column, then the bushings in the engine bay. I have already checked the linkage connection at the transmission and it is solid.

Could this be symptomatic of either a worn out engine mount? Or trans mount?.... or something more internal?

I'm not used to troubleshooting automatics, so appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Mike

I'd begin with your motor mounts, if worn out, I'd also replace your trans mount as they're probably all the same age and condition. As you've noted:

, torque over is the possible likely suspect.

Next on my list is the steering column, again, as you've already noted. I'm assuming that your trans is in reasonably good condition, clean fluid/filter and it doesn't show any other symptoms other then what you've noted.
