What is the major differences between the frames of a twin i beam and a twin traction beam? I was wondering if twin traction beams could be put under a twin i beam frame fairly easily?

No difference at all if you're talking about the same year trucks. 1980-1997 trucks 2wd and 4x4 use the same frames. Well, the frames are exactly the same between the coil sprung trucks, the leaf sprung F250 and F350 4x4's do have some differences where the leaf springs mount, but you can buy aftermarket shackle reversal kits now that use better superduty springs and get all the required bracketry to install a 4x4 axle under a 2wd truck.

If you are comparing a pre-79 twin I beam truck to a twin traction beam truck then you're talking completely different. There's nothing that interchanges, frames are 100% different, very different.

No such thing as a 'dumb question'. It is only your lacking of this knowledge. By asking, you'll have the knowledge!

The major difference is TTB (Twin Traction Beam) front suspension/axles are FRONT steer and Twin I Beams (Our era trucks) are rear steer.

Front steer places the steering gear/linkage ahead of the axle and rear steer places it behind the axle. Don't remember where I saw it, but there is a picture on the net of a Bumpside era pre-runner with a TTB front end under it.

I've always thought that it would be neat to have as it would give you the best of both worlds.

Could you adapt it to your truck? Anything's possible. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate it a solid 9 or 10 in terms of degree of difficulty to accomplish. That's adapting the TTB to a Bump chassis. My opinion only.

The easiest way would be to adapt your Bump body onto an 1980 and up TTB Ford chassis. Even that is not for the faint of heart.

yeah I kinda figured it would probably be easier to switch the bodys over. I have a chebby 4x4 that I like but i like my old bump better. So when I get my bump goin I cant afford insurance on 2 trucks and my daily driver car. So I was planning on selling the chebby, however I do love the luxury of four wheel drive.
