tranny help

Post by blumule »

Does anyone know if the input shaft on a 3 speed removes the same as a 4 speed? Ive already dropped cluster gear but she aint coming out the front. All info i can find is on the 4 speed, and it comes out front of case.

It does come out the front. If you rotate the input shaft you should notice a place on the gear teeth that looks like it had been ground down. That wil aloowo clearance for the input shaft to come out the front when everything is in the correct spot.

Ive tried it all . The gear teeth are too tall. Ive dropped cluster gear to allow clearance but its the gear itself. This is a rat tag transmission and ive been told some of the 3 speed toploaders input shafts have to be removed from within housing. IDK. What i do know is this one aint coming out the front.

Does it not have the teeth cut on one side?

no, it just has a slightly taller gear than front opening. i talked to mike johnson who is a 3 speed expert. he has built hundreds of these and he confirmed that some, not all come out the front. mine just happens to be one that doesnt. dan williams turned me on to mike. thanks for your time to help.
