Looks like it doubles as panhard and double shock mounting. Are you worried about your truck swaying too much?

I believe on the front it's called a track bar.

Re: front pan hard bar?
been reading and some say that with crossover steering it will help, although Ive read usually only on coil spring fronts. My 95 leaf sprung solid front axle f350 had one so probably try it without and see what happens first.

Re: front pan hard bar?
Guys this is my opinion. If the bar runs at a steep angle like the one in the picture I would think that when the axle travels up and down it would cuase the axle to shift side to side. I think that if you do run a track bar it should kept parallel to the axle tube (front or rear). I could see problems with bumpsteer if the track bar and drag link(?) were not run parallel. Just my opinion

Re: front pan hard bar?
That was always my understanding on what the tracking bar did..
Kept the front axle aligned with the rear axle.
To prevent "dog legging" where the front axle is no longer aligned with the rear axle due to lifting. I put an adjustable one on my old style Bronco after putting 6" of suspension under it. Would it even be needed under a leaf spring lift?

Re: front pan hard bar?
the 80+ trucks have panhard bars because they have front shackles.
I wouldn't run one unless it's needed. The setup on that 78-79 looks poor to me.
