Rearend interchange-ability

Post by ericknight »

Will a 1957-1966 rearend fit a 1967-1972 truck with no modifications necessary? I know 1973 and newer are too wide. I'm talking about the half ton / f100.

There's some good info on this subject in this thread. Aparently the late 50's to mid 60's axles were a bit narrower than the 9" for the bumps.

Hmmm, found this statement, "57-67 were ones size and 68-72 were just a bit wider". Is that for the axles or the whole housing?

That is not correct, 57-67 were ones size and 68-72 were just a bit wider. This is why you have to use 68-72 axles if you use 68 and newer brakes. hawkrod
